Sailing, playing music (the River Bottom Nightmare Band ROCKS), travel, reading, home brewing

I got a later start in sailing than some. I went out on a family friend's day-sailor a few times as a kid, but spent most of my childhood water time in canoes or wade fishing in the Potomac and Shanendoah Rivers.

When I got to college, I made freinds with a guy who had grown up sailing on the Long Island Sound. He talked me into getting involved in a keelboat racing program at the college on a Heritage 37. I took the hook and have been at it ever since (16 years).

I met my wife racing boats, first as opposing crew, then as crew mates when I joined her skipper.

We've done a lot a racing on the Cheasapeake and now down here in the Tampa and Sarasota Bay areas. I was foredeck on J29s for many years, as well as trimming, rail riding, beer fetching, or anything else to get a day on the water. I've done a little bit of blue water racing as well.

I am now trying to learn how to cruise, too. Having spent most of my time on sailboats racing, it can be hard not to spend all the time on a pleasure sail tweaking for speed or tracking shifts. In the end, any day on the water is a good one. I still love racing, but a slow cruise around the mouth of the Tampa Bay is fine, too.

Crew for J24 Caliente, Melges 24 Goux Get Mamma, Catalina 34 Spring Fever, Hook/Kelly custom 34 Grand Illusion, and anyone else who calls in need of crew.

Previously crew for Farr 395 American Flyer and J29s Breakaway, Rhumb Punch, and Joint adVenture

I want to try this first then look at a ASA 3 day course to get good postive training without bad habits...then look at buying a small boat 22-25......I feel like a kid going to my first day of high school.....Thanks for checking on me...

Hey Joyce,

Finally figured out this is you.  Good sailing with you last week.  You guys gonna brave the puffs tonight?

Hey Jeff,
I'm new to this and I need to get help from Tommy so I can post some things on my profile.  I think it's a great site.  Didn't race last night.  It was a bit windy for a J24.

Great shots. If you wouldn't mind I'd like a copy of the one of us all in front of Capt Tony's.

I'll have to check them out and make sure I don't have any blackmail photo ops out there.

It was a good shindig.  Good food and company.  Light air for the cruise, but enough to move, then we rafted up for the night.  I brought the guitar, but was a little rum-addled.  Next time you need to come and bring yours too.  You get down to the club to secure silver streak yet?

Sounds like a blast!
I put the streak to bed yesterday, and Reid anchored the trailer for me.  I think she will hold just fine.
