We will try, but we might be moving that weekend. It is a good show from all over the bay, and I think they did away with the secure zone, so you can get as close as you want.

Reminds me of my last trip back from Sarasota right after the hurricane went by. Squall lines with gusty winds. Then the Cortez bridge was broke so I had to go out into the Gulf to get around Anna Maria. Couldn't see anything due to it raining sideways. You guys were awsome to do this in winter.

Hi Kay. Nice to see you on Sailmonster. I see you have some furry sailing partners. Awhile back I wrote a blog called "Meow Meow" about a kitten I rescued out of the cannal. I'm trying to let it get used to the boat now. She has a fear of water, but thats it.

Hey Mike, that's funny, I saw Captbrown going back up the channel too. Nice new boat. Hope to see you guys at the raftup!

After a change of plans, we're in. Looks like the water might still be a little too cold for swimming after the winter we're having.

While returning home from the raftup, we experienced mechanical trouble. The engine was getting hotter and hotter. We were about 4 miles up Sarasota Bay when it got too hot for me, so I dropped the hook off the channel so I could check the intake strainer for debris. Cleaned some out, but not enough to overheat it. Then the engine3 wouldn't restart. Let it cool but no luck. Reluctantly sail back to SSS and sail into a slip. Danny was still there and helped me with a place to swtay and get a mechanic to check it. SRQ Yacht Repair was great. Came out Sunday night to look at it for me. He found a water pump that needs to be rebuilt, and one cylinder not getting any fuel. He got it running for me so I could get home first thing Monday. A long 12 hr sail with some slow idling up ICW. Thank you for everyones help. We still had a great time at the raftup!

Hey "Wild Man"!  Thanks for the suggestion on the solar panel.  Teresa and i along with some other people are going out to Beer Can Island Saturday and staying to Sunday.  We will be staying on the boat and the kids will be camping on the Island.  We will be rafting up with another boat and would love to add you to the list.  I also bringing my 17'er.  Let me know if you Kaye can make it.

I've sailed and anchored in Bunces pass near the camp ground for Ft Desoto yrs ago. It is nice. The pass is super tricky if the tide and wind are opposed and its classic west coast shifty channel can eat you alive if you're not on top of your game. Actually I was anchored in there 3yrs ago when the kayak marathon to the everglades/keys started but I couldn't roll out of the sack to see it. you were probably one of those paddlin' kooks doin' their thingWink. Stay in touch and we'll get together sailing soon.

Yah, it was blowing. Blew all the water out too. We were already inside the pass waiting for another friend to arrive. He got there right at low tide with all that wind and couldn't get in the pass. He anchored off the beach that night and we went further in to seek better shelter. We loved that place though and want to go back soon.

That was in Bounces Pass?  I used to sail  a Hobie out of there and it is really shollow on  either  side of the channel in that region around the camp sites and the area to the north.  I'm surprised you guys used it.  The chart shows 4' at the end of the channel going out so I don't think I'd have gone in myself.  I think I'd have tried the edge of the entrance to Tierra Verde just NE of Shell Island.  Anyway, it sounds like you guys had fun and adventure's the name of the game Smile  Actually now that I think of it the leg between the north tip of Ft. Desoto and Shell Island is deep and a lot of people anchor next to the beach there and there is good enough depth.  Hmm...

Maybe it's not such a bad spot  if you time it right with the tides...  I'm looking forward to meeting up with you guys when I can sail.  I'm hoping to go out next Saturday to practice some boat handling so we don't crash into anyone at the Morgan Invasion if we race the following weekend.  So we might be out there next weekend.

Hey WT,
I didn't actually sail that day as I never got my genoa repaired. It is awesome out though. I may just have to go out and sail with the main only. See ya at the Sunspree---what time you getting there?

Hey Sunraze, didn't see you on Thursday. Wasn't it nice out? I had a great week. Went out sailing in the Gulf Wednesday. Man, it was great! I even went up into the North end of Coquina Key to see what the water is like. Not bad. We are looking at another house over there Sunday. Well, if I don't see you before, see you at Sunspree!
