So I go out on the dock to see all the phosforous in the water after the rain last night. A light sprinkle is still coming down and leaving little green dots on the surface. How pretty, but what is that noise? It sounds like a cat. How strange, no one has a cat around hear. Meow meow meow, meowing like crazy. Sounds like it's in trouble. My instincts kick in and I just have to help if I can.

So at 11:00 pm. I go down about 5 houses and walk to the back. No cats here. Meow. Wait, I think I hear it. I look down the seawall and there, in the phosforous, is a cat that can barely stay above water, blowing bubbles, and swimming like crazy towards me. Come here, I gotcha. Up on the seawall you go.

It's just a kitten, maybe 3 months old, and can't hardly stand it's so cold and tired. Who knows how long she'd been in the water, let alone how much longer she would have lasted. If I hadn't found her, she'd have been a gonner. Ok, she still has 8 lives left.

I find a box and go back and pick her up. She didn't even move from where I left her. Brought her home and rinsed her off. She didn't fancy having more water poured on her, but I had to get the seaweed off.

By now Margarittamomma has heard the cries and got up to see what is going on. One look at this kitten and her maternal instincts kicked in. Is she going to make it? I don't know. I hope so. She wrapped her up in a dry towel and started warming her up. Within about 20 mins she was settled down and purring like a kitten! I think she'll make it.

Now what are we going to do with it? Momma says we have to keep it in the bedroom with us tonight. I don't like the idea, but she's taking care of it. Well, she got her strength back and wants to pounce all over the place. Not gonna happen, I'm trying to sleep. So we put her in a box so she can't run all over the place. Meow meow meow all night long. Not much sleep with a new kitten in the house, ugh!

Now I'm putting signs up around the neigborhood and placing ads in the papers and craigslist. Hope to hear from someone missing a kitten in the Tampa Bay Marina area, or just wants one.

You can keep her if you don't find the owner or sell her to your local chinese resteraunt

Nice job, dude!!  How we treat animals is an indication of how we treat each other.  You're a good man.

It is an Asian philosophy that you become responsible for any life you save being that you interfered with fate. Perhaps you may want to call the newest member of your tribe, Confucious.

Well, no luck yet. Kay is in love with her and keeps calling her "Squirt". I prefer to call her "Seaweed". She is very cute and lovable. If I hadn't been there she would definatly be sharkbait. I saw a 4 ft. shark swimming around the dock just the day before. Looks like we may end up with a new outside cat. I thought about her making a good boat cat, but earlier, Kay was holding her while I was watching a fishin show on TV. As soon as she heard the water splashing on TV, she freaked out and tried to run away. You think she might be afraid of water now? I sure hope someone claims her soon before I have to keep her.

Another "firefighter saves a cat" story. I know, being a fireman,
that you can't keep every cat that gets stuck in a tree but there seems
to be some sort of karma working about a cat near YOUR dock, in the
middle of the night, while it's raining, in the water near your boat.
How'd that just "happen" that you were right there when that little
helpless kitty needed a guy in the rescue buisness at that exact
moment???

Better just give it a cool name like Aeriel, scuba cat(see gallery pic) or swimmy
and just get used to it. Makes for a cool story anyway. A cat who
swims that well deserves a spot in a sailors home.......his rescuers,
not mineSmile.

Nice story Wild Turkey.  You where in the right place at the right time.  If it was not for you that kitten would not be here today.  There is a good reason for everything DAD!  Hope you find the owner.  If not I am sure the kitten will have a great home.  Could be a sailing cat!
