Patti,
It sounds like you are realizing what it takes to keep your boat in bristol fashion. The work never ends. The more you are able to do yourself with competance and confidence, the cheaper it will be. Each project increases your love for the boat. I too, need gaskets for 17 stainless opening portlites, and 4 hatches. Some how, some where I will find them.
Frank

Oh my 17 stainless portlites?  Wow... that's some boat.  My portlights were replaced a year before I purchased the boat. Three of them have leaked so badly, that I now have dry rot on two serious enough to need to replace the interior boards and on one multiple staining. I've been unable to stop determine where the leaks are coming from.  The dogs are tight, seals are good, which must mean that its coming from the framing on the outside. Visual inspection shows no cracks, no damage and frames appear to be tight against the hull.  I wanted to put a bead of caulking around all of them, but my caulking skills are horrible and the unslightly mess had to be cleaned off.  I was told by another boater that the portlights needed to pulled off and reseated.  Yeah, like I really know how to do that and if I did, would I want to tackle it.  LOL... so that's another job for someone else.  I look at it this way, its going to save the boat and help the local economy.  :-))  After all BOAT is not a word its an acronym for Bring On Another Thousand.

Have a great day today, stay warm.

Later,
Patti

Hi Patti,
I very much wanted to sail back to Key West this winter, but with the economy in shambles, fuel prices high all summer, I stayed here in Maine, and the Harvest Moon is on land and tarped over for the winter.
love,

HI Frank,
Wow that must feel really strange having your boat high and dry.  I know from reading that is the safest thing for boats up there in the harsh winters. Still, never having lived north of the Mason Dixon line its a concept I can't wrap my mind around.  When Destiny is on the hard, I can't even bring myself to climb the ladder to see what's going on inside her.  The coming back down that ladder is the hardest part for me.

My boat is water bound most of the time. When she's out, its to have something done to her bottom or a major repair.  I'm having her hauled in January to have the keel bolts checked and replaced if necessary and a new shaft installed. I'm already jonesing about it because my crew is going to be gone in Dec, ie. no sailing, and when they return in January no boat.  LOL... So despite the fact that we can sail year around here, I'll be boatless and tossed up on the land like yesterday's mullet.  :-(

Today my boat engineer did a complete tune up on baby, with new air filter and all the trimmings, winches got lubed and cleaned, and the rigging checked and tensioned.  My next major project after the January one is to have the lens replaced in teh hatches and new gaskets installed.  Its difficult to find these gaskets,

Sorry... went on and on about my boat.  I'm really beginning to see the light on some of the major things I wanted to do to her since I bought her.  She's a "work" in progress.

Will you do anything to your boat this winter?  I know you said you "tarped" her, but does that mean no access to her interior?

Sorry went on to long, have a great evening,

Hugs,
Patti

PS:  I hate that you didn't get to sail to the Keys. That's an awesome place.  I really like Summerland Key but its really hard to find a good anchorage there.

Thanks Cap Frank, I'll wait for warmer weather to come aboard. LOL... bit of a fair weather sailor.  Do you take your boat out of the water in the winters up there or do you head for warmer waters and fairer climes?

Later,
Patti
