CLEARWATER - The Coast Guard is asking boaters to be on the lookout for a 35-foot sailboat called Fly Away and the two people who set sail on it from Clearwater on Saturday morning.

The vessel was expected to arrive in Panama City on Sunday night but did not. The wife of one of the two missing men did not receive a scheduled call from her husband, according to a written statement from the Coast Guard.

One of the sailors is a 68-year-old Gulf Shores, Ala., man; the other a 66-year-old St. Petersburg man. Their names were not released.

Fly Away is a Pearson sailboat. It has an Alabama registration number, AL1644AG. It has a maroon hull, a white superstructure and white sails.

Anyone who spots it should contact the Coast Guard at (727) 824-7506 or on marine VHF radio channel 16.

"We are searching an area spanning from Clearwater to Apalachicola, Florida," said Petty Officer Phillip Peacock, a rescue coordinator. "Because of the size of the search area, we are asking mariners to be on the lookout for any possible signs of boaters in distress, which includes a disabled vessel, radio broadcasts, flare sightings and debris in the water."
