SARASOTA — A father-daughter team from Nokomis took two titles at the annual Sailfest Regatta on Sunday.
Fred Strammer, the father who represents the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, won the Flying Scot class with two firsts, a second and a third in four races. Crewing for him was Max Baird of St. Petersburg.
Daughter Teal Strammer, who sails for the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, grabbed the Laser 4.7 honors by winning four out of eight races in that category.
More sailors ventured out onto Sarasota Bay on Sunday as the weather cooperated and wind speed dropped a little from Saturday's opener, when only a portion of competitors raced.
The Green Fleet, a portion of the International Optimist Dinghy (IOD) class reserved for first-year competitors, had 50 skippers registered, making it the largest division in the 124-sailor event. Green Fleeters sailed only one race Saturday but added five more Sunday as Trevor Avila of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club took first.
Graham Landy of Team FOR (Florida Ocean Racing, based in Pinellas County) won the Red Fleet, which is for IOD sailors between 13 and 15. He also grabbed the overall IOD honors by sailing to five firsts in eight races.
Samantha Purton, also of Team FOR, finished first in the Blue Fleet -- designated for 11 and 12-year-old skippers. Nicholas Schultz of the host Sarasota Youth Sailing Program (SYSP) took the White Fleet, which is for children 10 and under.
Viktor Wettergren of SYSP sailed to four firsts in eight races to garner first place in the Laser Radial division. SYSP's Brian Firth, with Justin LaPoutere crewing, skippered his 420 to first place in three of five races to win that group.
Sarasota High and Pine View sailors traveled to Jacksonville's Florida Yacht Club for the qualifiers this weekend.
Sarasota High finished fourth and qualified for the nationals, which will be at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on May 10-11. Pine View came in fifth and did not qualify.
