So, I've finally got my depthfinder working, only to realize the
transducer is not 'transducing'. So, I've found a replacement,
verified it works and now I'm at the installation stage. Previous
owner put it on the keel it looks like, although I've never had
the boat out of the water and don't really want to take it out until
I do so for the bottom job. Having said all that, where else can a
fellow install a transducer? What about the 'skeg' (?) right behind
the rudder? Or, for that fact, how about the bottom of the top half
of the rudder (it's a kickup)? I guess if nobody likes any of those
ideas, I could mount it temporarily to be moved once the boat comes
out.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
Eric

First, please forgive the ignorance, but if I don't ask, I don't learn.
Where is this 'reefing point' I should be looking for on my mainsail, and
what am I looking for? The stock main on the TS should've had a 'jiffy reefing system', as per factory specs, but the sail may have been changed at some point in the last 31 years. And, secondly, what's the point of a 'batten'.

Ok, so we all know there's an ongoing saga (project) called the
Tequila Sunrise that's been undertaken by a nice, yet naive newbie;
yours truly. As I learn, look & listen, I can see the justification
of having a windvane to aid in determining the direction of the wind.
Logically, everyone I've seen has been mounted on the top of the mast
as this seems to best place to put one. Which, leads me to my question;
is there an alternative location a person could install some type of
windvane(direction indicator, etc.), that doesn't require lowering the
mast and/or climbing it? I ask because in a couple of weeks she's getting
sailed to her permanent home in Hudson from Anclote. Since that will also
be my 1st sail, I know it would be much better to have the windvane. Once
she's home, I am going to lower the mast for maintenance/rigging/etc., so
if I want to avoid do so prior to the trip. However, since I need all the
help I can get, is it feasible to get her those 15 nm or so, without one?
Or, as asked above, what is an alternative for at least this trip? (man,
the new guy sure is long winded, huh?)

We're redoing the heading w/vinyl, and just kinda assumed a 'carpet' hull liner, but I'd like something different. I thought about more vinyl, but the concern is it wouldn't be smooth at all.
I'm not sure if this would be the right forum for this question or not, but it seems to fit. What kind of tool is used to scrape the bottom of the hull of a sailboat? We can go into space, the depths of the oceans, clone body parts, split atoms and more just to name a few. Stop that flippin oil!
Whisker poles are incredibly expensive. Why is that Captain Ron? Nobody knows. Well, at least that's in line with my thinking. How in the hell did they come up with $1,400 for for three aluminum poles, two cast ends and internal blocks and line to allow for telescoping and locking in place. I can buy an entire boat for $1,400.

So what do us normal folk do? Are you guys buying these top dollar poles? I would trip over a fixed pole for $50 a long time before I would consider that much money for something that telescopes.
