Hi SirenBoy, We've been here about 20years and will most likely stay. I sailed very actively in Ohio, and New York before moving to Zurich when I promised the family I'd cut back. We discovered canal boating and stuck to charter sailing in the tropics for family vacations. Sailing on Lake Zurich is nice, but the weather is a problem, no wind on nice days. LI sound without the flies. I can rent a boat when I want on Zurich and other Swiss Lakes. Cost of ownership is very high, mooring wait lists are 15-20 years and you need to live in an expensive lakeside community to begin with. And the other lakes are also interesting, Lakes Luzern and Thun in the mountains, Maggori and Lugano in the south.
We have been coming to Sarasota in Winters since 2002, hang out at the SSS to mess with boats and charter out of St Pete for a week or so while we are there. Thought we would move to FL when I retired, but found we like Swiss spring, summer and autumn too much.
Hello Will! I'm a fan of Switzerland--was in fact married in St. Moritz and have sailed on Lago Maggiore. Been all over the country several times. I usually stay in Geneva, but Zurich is one of the great civilized cities of the world! Stayed there also many times and if you look on the humor on this site it will come as no surprise I'm a fan of Jean Arp, Georges Braque and the other Dadists. I even have pics at the dadaist Cafe Voltaire there in Zurich!
Do you sail also? On the Zurichsee? beautiful there.
Well to loosely quote Art Buchwald, "Living With Elan Is The Best Revenge."
No, my boat's name is Elan. Sirensailor is the email name I used to use years ago that lured my husband to me. Yes we survived dolly. I think there was a beer knocked over somewhere here in town. Just a rhumor I heard. I just found the site so I'm getting the feel for it but so far so good.
